Lochwinnoch is a 30 minute drive from Glasgow and 15 minutes from Paisley. We’re very conveniently located just off the Roadhead Roundabout on the A737.

Car

Trains at Lochwinnoch Station are half-hourly in both directions (Glasgow and Largs/Ardrossan). Prestwick and Ayr are on the same line – direct trains to these destinations will cease after May 2023 but they are still accessible with one change.

Lochwinnoch Station is located approximately fifteen minutes’ walk out of the village; there is a bus connection to the village for certain trains. Type in “Lochwinnoch Rail Station” in “origin” and “PA12 4AJ” in “destination” to see the most up-to-date bus connections to the McKillop Institute in the centre of the village on the Traveline Scotland Journey Planner.

Train

An hourly bus route runs from Lochwinnoch Station to Johnstone Station, with a number of pick-up points in the village (main bus stops are outside the McKillop Institute going to Johnstone, and outside Spar going to Lochwinnoch Station). Two companies run this route; the quickest way to find out the timetable is using the Traveline Scotland Journey Planner. Type in the postcode PA12 4AJ and your destination for the most up-to-date timetables for buses from the McKillop Institute.

Stagecoach route X36 stops hourly at the A737 Roadhead Roundabout just outside the village, on a route that runs from Dalry to Glasgow’s Buchanan Street Bus Station. Please use the Stagecoach Journey Planner for up-to-date timetables. 

Bus

Lochwinnoch is a fifteen minute drive/taxi ride from Glasgow Airport; Lochwinnoch Station is on the train line to Prestwick Airport; (as of May 2023 there are no longer direct trains from Lochwinnoch to Prestwick but there is only one change on the line).

There is one cash machine on the High Street and a second one (with small charge) located inside Spar. A Royal Bank of Scotland van visits the village on the following days: 

Monday: 12.00-12.30

Thursday: 12.30-13.00

Banking

The ‘wee bus’ runs hourly from Lochwinnoch Station to Johnstone Station, with stops at Howwood and Johnstone High Street in between. The main pick up point for Johnstone is outside the McKillop although there are several other unmarked stops around the village; the main pick-up point for Lochwinnoch Station is the bus stop outside Spar.  It’s really easy to find up-to-date times: simply pop your destination in here with the postcode PA12 4AJ as “origin”.
